EARLIER THIS year the collective groans of black people in Britain could probably be heard across the pond as it was announced classic 90s black sitcoms were coming to Netflix US … and seemingly Netflix US only.

Girlfriends, Sister, Sister, The Parkers, Half & Half, One on One, The Game – and of course, Moesha were all acquired by Netflix under its Strong Black Lead initiative.

While those in the UK have had to wait a little longer than their American counterparts to see some of these shows, the news many of us had been waiting for came at the start of this month when Netflix revealed a selection of the shows – Sister, Sister, Girlfriends and Moesha – would be available to UK viewers.

Sister, Sister has been available to watch since 6 November, while Girlfriends followed closely behind on 13 November.

Today Moesha has landed on the streaming service in the UK – and it’s the perfect show to view while you deal with another weekend of lockdown. What better way to spend the weekend indoors than reminiscing about 90’s fashion and fresh braids.

If you can’t remember what the show was about or have never seen it before, Moesha, played by singer and actress Brandy, follows the life of the teenager as she navigates friendships, romance, family life and social issues.

The show, which was first released in 1996 spans six series and Netflix has them all.
