Troy turns paper into pounds

TESCO SURPRISED shoppers in Wembley this week by partnering with ‘Troy the Magician’ to turn their receipts into ten and twenty pound notes, to mark the launch of its Clubcard Prices initiative, which gives Tesco Clubcard holders access to exclusive deals on hundreds of products.

The stunt took place to highlight that shoppers could be missing a trick when it comes to money off deals, after the supermarket’s research revealed that 96 per cent of Brits say they look for ways to reduce the price of their shopping.

Knowing how all of us are trying to be a little bit savvier with our money right now, it was great to go down to Wembley and show families how they may be missing out on hundreds of savings

Troy – real name Troy Von Scheibner – wowed customers at the Wembley branch of Tesco by performing a selection of mind-boggling tricks. In addition to transforming a Tesco Clubcard into a £10 note, the celebrity illusionist also used the card to transform shoppers’ receipts into money and kept a Clubcard hovering in mid-air without touching it, to the disbelief of onlookers.

Karina Lawrence was outside the store with son Alexander Lawrence, aged eight, who said: “He made the Clubcard fly!”

Shopper Keira Mills Barnes said “It just changed in front of your eyes.”

Another customer, Phoebe Thomas said: “I have no idea how he did it. It was a bit different to a normal shopping experience.”

The celebrity illusionist was performing tricks to demonstrate the money that Brits can save by shopping with their Clubcard, after research of 2,000 adults found 96 per cent actively look for ways to bring their shopping costs down.

The study also found eight in 10 believe loyalty reward schemes are important in helping them choose where to shop.

From September 15, Clubcard shoppers can save up to half price on the nation’s favourite frozen brands including Carte D’or ice cream to Dr Oetker Pizza.

A Tesco spokesperson said: “In the current climate we know that saving money is more important to our customers than ever before, so we partnered with Troy to show that the secret to unlocking exclusive deals is as simple as signing up to Tesco Clubcard.

“Through our new Tesco Clubcard Prices initiative, our Clubcard holders will gain access to a range of exclusive deals, saving up to half price on hundreds of branded and own-brand items without the need to shop around.”

Troy Von Scheibner said: “As a magician, my job is to make people feel like something’s been given to them right in front of their eyes – to show them something they weren’t expecting.

“Knowing how all of us are trying to be a little bit savvier with our money right now, it was great to go down to Wembley and show families how they may be missing out on hundreds of savings – and that the solution is as simple as getting themselves a Clubcard.”

To take advantage of the exclusive deals, customers simply tap their Clubcard or scan the Clubcard app at the till, and the discounts will magically appear.

Online customers will get their discounts automatically and they will show on their final customer delivery note.

While 19 million existing Clubcard holders will have immediate access to these exclusive deals, no one else needs to miss out.

It is free and easy to sign-up to Clubcard on the Tesco website, where you can also download the app. Users can then continue to collect points, get vouchers and enjoy rewards.
