The aim of the directory is to be the ‘go to’ place for black creatives on and off screen and stage for everyone in the industry to tap into and it’s free to join.
Many top West End Performers and Creatives have been trialing The Directory over the last few weeks and it has been well received and with The Black British Theatre Awards reporting that feedback and support has been extremely positive.
Rt Hon David Lammy MP said: “Bridging the gap between the copiousness of black talent and the absence of recognition, The Black Theatre and Film Directory is a celebration of intersectional achievement.
“The Directory proves that Black performers and creatives have not just contributed to British art and culture. They are part of Britain’s artistic and cultural fabric.”
Solange Urdang and Omar F Okai Co Founders/Directors of the Black British Theatre Awards, now in its third year, along with the help of Vanessa Fisher, leading The Directory initiative, have created this trailblazing and much needed directory.
Urdang and Omar F. Okai said: “After the success of the BBTAs, this is a natural progression.
“To keep highlighting the phenomenal black talent from Britain but now also through this platform ensure visibility internationally. A new voice of reference!”.
All black creatives and performers can create their own profiles, detailing skills, experience and interests within the Theatre and Film Industry.
Everyone from agents, casting agents, lighting, set and costume designers, directors, choreographers, educators, to performers can sign up and be included in this black theatre/film database, worldwide.
The Casting Directors Guild of Great Britain and Ireland (CDG) said: “We are thrilled to see the creation of the Black Theatre and Film Global Directory, which will be an invaluable resource for our members and for the industry as a whole.”
Sharon Henry of Sharon Henry Management enthused: “I’m so very proud to support the Black Theatre and Film Global Directory.
“It is such an extremely important and much needed asset for the Black creative community and everyone, I look forward to working and accessing the exceptional talent that will be readily visible.”
