Primary school teacher Jemma Nathanson has set up a new wedding videography business for brides and grooms on a budget.

The 34-year-old, of Trentham, has launched Weddit Films which works with couples to help them capture footage of all the special moments of their big day – using friends and family and their mobile phones.

Jemma says the idea for the business came on the back of personal experience at her own wedding to husband Dan in August 2015.

The mother-of-one said: “When we got married we wanted a videographer but we realised we couldn’t afford one. As I can edit videos, we decided to get some of our friends to get some videos of different parts of our wedding.

“When we got back from our honeymoon I put it all together and now we have a video that we can cherish forever.”

Jemma added: “It started off as a bit of a side hobby for me, but when lockdown happened I just thought I’d give it a go as a business because I had that extra time to make it work and it was a way for me to bring in a bit of extra money. I’m from a long line of people who have launched their own businesses and become their own boss.”

Through Weddit Films, Jemma – who has a BA (hons) degree in film and video – meets with the couple to decide on what shots they want at their wedding.

The pair is then asked to nominated up to eight friends or family members who they trust to film parts of their special day on their mobile phones; with each person being given a specific part of the wedding – such as the throwing of the confetti, cutting the cake and the first dance – to focus on.

Before the big day, Jemma offers advice to people on how to capture the footage to get the best results, before it is sent over to her for editing and returned to the couple.

Jemma – whose video editing credentials include a Strictly Come Dancing – The Live Tour promotional video, a cook-along video with chef Francesco Mazzei and an advert for Liverpool One shopping centre – said: “There are loads of benefits to this. Couples will get authentic shots because their videographers will be in the thick of it and be able to catch all the action and, particularly during current times when guest numbers are limited, it saves on having to accommodate for that extra person. It’s also a great way to save money on a videographer.”

She added: “There is nothing more personal than having your wedding video filmed by the people you love the most. Our service is a bit like a modern version of leaving disposable cameras on each table.”

Jemma is currently balancing her job as a primary school teacher and building Weddit Films, but she already has plans to expand her service to include a variety of video montage packages such as school proms and ‘baby’s first year.’
