Newcastle’s High Street Group has appointed Killingworth construction group Metnor to the two-year project for Westminster Works, in the Digbeth area of the city.

Following the completion of site preparation works on the site, Metnor will embark on the programme from later this month and it is expected to be complete in the last quarter of 2022.

The 220 build-to-rent apartment development is set in a vibrant neighbourhood within the £1bn regeneration zone, less than a mile from Birmingham’s New Street Station.

The eight-storey building will have a mix of one and two-bedroom open plan apartments configured around a central courtyard, as well as a concierge service, residential gym along with car parking and cycle storage.

Westminster Works marks the first development project between The High Street Group and Metnor Construction.

Metnor has designed and built a range of modern, high specification, multi-room developments across the UK, delivering more than 4,600 bedrooms with additional accommodation services – and the value of this project matches the entire turnover reported by Metnor Construction Ltd for 2018.

“We have been incredibly impressed with The High Street Group’s professionalism and enthusiasm for the local economy and the built environment, helping create wonderful spaces for local communities and we are absolutely delighted and thankful to have been awarded this exciting scheme, which the whole Metnor Group will be actively engaged in delivering.”

The Birmingham development forms part of an extensive portfolio of projects being delivered by the High Street Group, creating new sustainable communities in key locations across the UK.

In addition to developments in Manchester and Newcastle, The High Street Group has a particular focus on Birmingham, and alongside Westminster Works The High Street Group is pursuing a pipeline of large residential schemes in the city.

Chairman Gary Forrest said: “We are really pleased to reach an agreement with Metnor Construction to deliver Westminster Works. Collaborating with other North East businesses is always welcome and I am looking forward to seeing the Westminster Works take shape and contribute to our Birmingham development portfolio.

“Birmingham presents a real opportunity for investment and development in high quality Private Rental Sector and mixed-use schemes that create long-term sustainable communities in the city and supports the wider regeneration and investment the area is experiencing. We are very proud to be playing a part in the future of the city, creating much needed high-quality homes for local people.”
