NICKI MINAJ has announced that she is pregnant with her first child.
The rapper, 37, whose real name is Onika Maraj-Petty, shared the news with a series of photographs on social media.
In the first image posted on Instagram, which Minaj simply captioned “#preggers”, she is pictured holding her baby bump, wearing an embellished bikini and bright yellow wig.
She captioned another image: “Love. Marriage. Baby carriage. Overflowing with excitement & gratitude. Thank you all for the well wishes.”
Minaj has not yet revealed the baby’s sex or how many months she has left until she gives birth.
The star married Kenneth Petty in October last year.
Ahead of the pair’s wedding, Nicki revealed her plans to retire from music to start a family.
In a tweet, she said: “I’ve decided to retire and have my family. I know you guys are happy now.”
She later deleted the post and proclaimed that she was “still right here”.
While the exact timing will come as a surprise to many, Minaj has been vocal about her desire to become a mother for some time.
During an interview with Complex in 2014, the Grammy nominated artist told the publication that her biggest fear was that she would become so consumed with her work that she would forget to live her personal life to the fullest.
“If I’m done with my fifth album and I don’t have a child by then, no matter how much money I have, I would be disappointed, as a woman, because I feel like I was put here to be a mother,” Minaj said.
In recent weeks she had hinted that she might be pregnant, discussing feelings of nausea and food cravings with fans, and dropping clues in her music.
