MOSTYN, one of the UK’s foremost contemporary art galleries – situated in the beautiful seaside town of Llandudno on the North Wales coast – is seeking a learning and engagement specialist with the experience and skills to bring cultural and societal issues to life through the arts, introducing as wide an audience as possible to the benefits and opportunities of contemporary art. The postholder will research and formulate plans for ambitious and experimental approaches to reaching new audiences and widening engagement with diverse communities. This new post, funded by a grant from the Art Fund’s Respond and Reimagine programme, will help us to develop links and collaborations that focus on the care, health and wellbeing of new and existing audiences for the arts.

The gallery, which was originally founded in 1901, has a reputation for presenting outstanding and critically-engaged international contemporary art that inspires and encourages people to form and share new perspectives on the world. In 2010, the building underwent a period of expansion and the original Edwardian spaces were extended and developed into stunning contemporary spaces which now house six galleries, a shop stocking contemporary makers from Wales and further afield, and an upstairs café with views out to the sea. During closure due to COVID-19 restrictions, the gallery has continued to operate in a digital space and the staff team, along with their hopes to be able to open in the near future, is looking forward with optimism to the opportunities this new appointment will bring.
