The Institute of Directors has announced the winners of its Midlands Director of the Year Awards 2020.

The winners were unveiled at an online awards ceremony which combined the West and East Midlands for the first time.

The chair’s award for excellence and board practice for the West Midlands went to Clive Hickman who is chief executive of the Manufacturing Technology Centre in Coventry.

The centre was established in 2010 as an independent research organisation with the objective of bridging the gap between academia and industry.

Mr Hickman, who joined the organisation in 2011, has more than three decades of engineering experience in several roles within the automotive industry, including as head of engineering for Tata Motors in India, the company which owns Jaguar Land Rover.

He also worked for Rover, the Motor Industry Research Association and Ricardo Consulting Engineers.

The other winners were:

Third Sector Director of the Year

Toby Porter, Acorns Children’s Hospice

Start-up Director of the Year

Tracey Paxton, The Employee Resilience Company

SME Director of the Year

Jonathan Hemus, Insignia Crisis and Reputation Management

Public Sector Director of the Year

Bill Skelly, Lincolnshire Police

Non-Executive Director of the Year

James Pinchbeck, Lincoln College Group

Director of the Year for Innovation

Chris Clay, Escalate Law, East Midlands

Director of the Year for Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

Roger Dix, Wesleyan

Family Director of the Year

Helen Wathall, Wathall’s

Director of the Year for Social Value & Sustainability Impact

Kevin Watson, Amadeus

Young Director of the Year

Suleman Sacraine, The GP Service (UK)

Brian Hall, chairman of the IoD in the West Midlands, said: “Congratulations go to all our winners who demonstrated outstanding success in their individual sectors.

“We were delighted to showcase and celebrate their achievements during our virtual awards ceremony which was run across the whole of Midlands to achieve a wide audience and maximum exposure for all our finalists.”
