BRITISH MUSICIAN Kay Young has released the visual for single, ‘Going Through’, riding high off of the announcement of her debut EP “Middle Matters”.
The visual for the emotionally-vulnerable follow up to her impressive Roc Nation debut, ‘Sweet Dreams.’ opens introspectively with Kay’s gentle words to her late Grandmother, accompanied by the David Hockney inspired aesthetic.
Speaking on the sophomore record and the filming process, Kay says: “We really wanted to amplify the layers and colours within the song.
“Dylan Hayes had the idea to incorporate David Hockney style montages which did just that. I fell in love with the song even more through filming the video.”
Accurately mirroring our present times, both in an uncomfortable period of change but with much hope on the horizon, Kay Young’s announcement of her label debut EP is aptly titled “Middle Matters”.
Reflecting on the naming of her EP, Kay Young reveals: “I’m no longer where I used to be and I’m not yet where I want to be yet.
“I’m in the middle which is uncomfortable but also where you do the most growing. ‘Middle Matters’ is simply me growing through the pain.”
The beautiful visual and forthcoming EP are cementing in the larger legacy that Kay feels obligated to build, as the multi-talented musician, displays her skill in both rapping and singing through her recently successful last offerings, including the enigmatic ‘Sweet Dreams’.
With an signature boom-bap and melodic style of Hip-Hop – its a recognisable sonic that sees her defining an original generation of black British Music.
Multifaceted, intriguing and with co-signs from some of musics most powerful figures, Kay Young’s EP is set to solidify herself as one of the most exciting names to watch right now.
