TRIBUTE: Claudia Fontaine’s family are fundraising for her funeral

THE FAMILY of late UK singer Claudia Fontaine have launched a fundraising effort towards funeral costs.

A Gofundme page has been set up with a target of £20,000, which would go towards assisting with burial expenses and other ‘necessary financial arrangements’.

It further outlined plans to establish a foundation in Claudia’s name to help people from lower income backgrounds to break into the music industry.

“For the short term it would be nice to raise £20,000, which would go towards supporting the family with the expense of funeral costs and other necessary financial arrangements.

“However, if a much larger sum was raised, a long term goal would be to leave a lasting legacy for Claudia, by setting up a foundation in her name to provide financial help and support to disadvantaged young people with talent, and new and unknown artists who are trying to establish a foothold in the music industry.”

The Fontaine family told The Voice: “Claudia was born with a voice, with the echoes of heaven. She spread her wings, and out flew the angels, as she stood on God’s podium to sing to the world in the natural high of everyone’s dreams. May her soul rest in heaven, and may the stars light up her way to paradise.”

Throughout her music career, Claudia enjoyed a run as a soloist and also collaborated with an impressive list of famous artists as a backing vocalist; including Robbie Williams, Will Young, Annie Lennox, Elvis Costello, Geri Halliwell, Joe Cocker, Marilyn, Dusty Springfield, Howard Jones and many more.

Claudia also worked with many rock and pop bands such as Soul 11 Soul, Pink Floyd, Madness, The Eurhythmics’, Beatmasters, The Jam, The Specials, Hothouse Flowers, Haysi Fantayzee, Incognito, Aztec Camera, Texas, Brother Beyond and The Attractions.

The prolific vocalist suddenly passed away on 13 March 2018, aged 57 years, reportedly from a heart attack. She is survived by her mother, siblings, nieces, nephews and friends.
