ACTRESS SIENNA Miller revealed that Chadwick Boseman took a pay cut to close the pay gap between the two stars.
Sienna Miller revealed the story within Empire Magazine’s recent tribute issue to the iconic actor, describing it as a “testament to who he was”.
The issue looked back at his legacy, featuring “interviews, tributes and remembrances of a King.”
Sienna Miller and Chadwick Boseman starred in 2019’s cop thriller 21 Bridges, which he also produced.
Last November, Miller told Sky News that her character was originally written for a male actor, saying: “He was very influential in changing that. I think he’s a real champion for women, and I have deep, deep respect for him.”
In the tribute, she told Empire magazine: “This was a pretty big-budget film, and I know that everybody understands about the pay disparity in Hollywood, but I asked for a number that the studio wouldn’t get to.
“And because I was hesitant to go back to work and my daughter was starting school and it was an inconvenient time, I said, ‘I’ll do it if I’m compensated in the right way.’… Chadwick ended up donating some of his salary to get me to the number that I had asked for. He said that that was what I deserved to be paid.”
Miller described the actor’s gesture as “the most astounding thing that I’ve experienced.
She added: “In the aftermath of this, I’ve told other male actor friends of mine that story and they all go very, very quiet and go home and probably have to sit and think about things for a while. But there was no showiness, it was, ‘Of course I’ll get you to that number, because that’s what you should be paid.’”
The world was shocked to the core when Chadwick Boseman died in August, following a private, four-year struggle with colon cancer.
