SINGER, SONGWRITER, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Cautious Clay has today released his brand new single, Agreeable, the first single from his upcoming debut album, expected to drop in 2021.
True to form, the independent artist from Brooklyn provides us with his signature blend of poetic and highly observant lyricism.
Infusing elements of dark humor and sarcasm, the song expertly subverts its own title to paint a portrait of people on different planes undermining one another’s opinions.
The reflective lyrics are juxtaposed with upbeat production from Clay & Jesse Shatkin (SIA), alongside a music video by frequent collaborator Haoyan of American that further uplifts and makes enjoyable a song that is ultimately about frustration.
Clay said: “Agreeable is both a reflection on how compromise is a part of our daily lives and how the compromises we make, both big and small, can have an effect on personal growth; it is also a satirical look at our current media landscape and the divisive rhetoric certain outlets and people employ in order to argue their points of view.”
Agreeable follows Clay’s recent Covid Relief Fund collaborative release Cheesin (with Remi Wolf, Still Woozy, Sophie Meiers, Claud, Melanie Faye and HXNS) and Reaching (ft. Alex Isley), the latter of which was featured on the Season 4 premiere of Issa Rae’s Insecure.
In 2019, Clay released his third EP titled Table of Context preceded by Resonace and his debut EP, Blood Type, which included his breakout song Cold War.
In addition to his own artist project Clay has collaborated as a writer and producer with many other notable artists including John Legend, Billie Eilish, John Mayer and Taylor Swift.
Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Clay currently resides in Brooklyn, New York.
