BusinessLive launches black-owned business campaign #IAMBOB ahead of Black Pound Day

Ahead of Black Pound Day on October 3, BusinessLive and its parent company Reach Plc are launching a campaign to champion the work of the UK’s black entrepreneurs.

We will be telling the success stories of black-owned companies – from start-ups to SMEs to large corporates.

The idea is to help support the growth of the UK’s black economy.

This weekend, we will be launching a Twitter campaign using the hashtag #IAMBOB and inviting black-owned businesses to get in touch.

The campaign will tell millions of people through our websites, social media channels and newspapers all about the UK’s thriving black business community.

Tell me more about #IAMBOB and why is it happening now?

Our campaign is part of the work BusinessLive is doing to represent all the communities it serves – and to highlight the importance of black-owned companies to the UK’s economic recovery.

This weekend, on and around Black Pound Day this Saturday, Reach’s news brands will retweet hundreds of local businesses to thousands of loyal followers.

Up and down the country, our trusted and industry-leading local and regional news websites and newspapers will help to promote the success stories of black-owned businesses.

The campaign is taking place throughout Black History Month – an annual event that originated in the US but is now also observed in Ireland, the Netherlands and the UK during October.

What is Black Pound Day?

Black Pound Day was launched in June 2020 by So Solid Crew’s DJ Swiss and is aimed at supporting the growth of the UK black economy.

According to the Black Pound Day website, DJ Swiss came up with the idea in response to the death of George Floyd in the US and the current Black Lives Matter protests in Britain.

Black Pound Day encourages everyone to replace their usual purchases with products from black-owned businesses, once a month.

It is also an opportunity to find out how everyone can support black businesses over the long term.

DJ Swiss hopes the movement will underpin the UK’s long-term financial growth and infrastructure, empowering and motivating the black community.

How do I take part in #IAMBOB?

All you have to do to take part is to tweet us with the hashtag #IAMBOB on Friday, October 2, Saturday October 3, or Sunday, October 4 – to make sure we can tell as many people as possible about your business.

Make sure you tag in your local news site too! For example, Bristol Live, Manchester Live or Birmingham Live.

We will also be telling many of your inspirational stories in our Reach titles throughout Black History Month and want to find out more about your businesses.

To tell your story, email our national business team at businesslive@reachplc.com with the following information: name of your company, where you are based, the number of employees, the year it was founded and a little explainer on what your company does.
