Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has also been cast in the fifth season, Deadline has reported.

Abdul-Mateen, who played Black Manta in Aquaman and was cast in US, could be working with Peele again very soon. He is in talks to play the lead in the director’s retelling of 1992 horror film Candyman.

Mackie, 40, will next return to screens in Avengers: Endgame, which is out in cinemas on April 26.

He is not the first actor involved in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to feature in the hit series. Black Panther’s Letitia Wright starred in the Black Museum episode in the last series, and Daniel Kaluuya featured in the Fifteen Million Merits episode in the first ever series. Kaluuya’s performance led to Jordan Peele casting the 30-year-old in Get Out.

The release date of the fifth season of the highly-anticipated hit science-fiction series has not been revealed. But according to, new episodes will air at some point during 2019.

Reflecting on creating a dystopian series in the context of the current political climate, Brooker told “I deliberately haven’t written an episode about Brexit, because you don’t know how that’s going to play out.”
