Council transport bosses are so worried about the damage being done by cars to grass verges that they are putting up warning signs.
But these contractors in Doveridge Road, Hall Green, are not practising what they are preaching.
An eagle-eyed resident snapped the crew putting up the sign saying ‘no motor vehicle parking on verge or footway’.
But they had done just that and given the wet rainy conditions may have done some damage to the nice turf.
Local councillor Timothy Huxtable (Cons, Hall Green South) raised the picture with the city’s Labour leader Ian Ward during council question time and asked him to explain what happened.
Cllr Huxtable asked how important the grass verges and their protection to the city council.
He said: “Would you instruct council drivers and contractors, not to park on grass verges.”
Cllr Ward replied: “We place great importance on grass verges in this city.
“I can’t explain why the contractors parked on that grass verge while putting up the sign and the irony of that fact is not lost on me.”
He added: “There is no excuse for council contractors, or anyone else for that matter, to park on grass verges.”
He promised to have a reminder sent to staff to reinforce that view.
